Howdy!

I am an incoming Artificial Intelligence Ph.D. student at Oregon State University, Corvallis. My interests revolve around the safety, robustness, and privacy of reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms for real-world safety-critical problems. I study these aspects of RL through theoretical rigor and applied empirical experimentation. I hope my research will one day help better understand and trust the future AI systems on which society will depend.

I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Oklahoma.

A Little More About Me

I was born and raised in Colima City, Colima, Mexico. Growing up, I was involved with running, drawing, and programming. Hoping to become a software developer, I majored in Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma. I later graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science (accelerated).

At OU, I became interested in artificial intelligence through the many research projects I was involved. Through my newly found passion, I contributed to research efforts on meteorology, airplane control, and machine learning robustness, as well as helping co-found the OU-AI club. I was also a McNair scholar. I was lucky to have been advised by Dr. Dean Hougen and Dr. Dimitrios Diochnos on my research endeavors.

Hoping to pursue a research career, I took a Ph.D. offer from Oregon State University to study artificial intelligence, with my studies being funded by a GEM fellowship (National Renewable Energy Laboratory), the EECS Outstanding Scholars program, and the Mr. & Mrs. Edward N. Rickert, Jr. Fellowship. I will be advised by Sanghyun Hong and Huazheng Wang.
